My Cycling for Libraries Puzzle, part 3
Friday, May 27th
I was the first one to wake up, as usual. Unlike on Thursday, it wasn't raining at all and I decided to give some exercise to my feet. Went jogging and enjoyed the sun flickering between the clouds. It was very comfortable to run/jog because the light traffic paths are so broad in Copenhagen. Dads and mom's were transporting their kids in delivery bikes, that's illegal in Finland, I suppose.
When I came back, I met another early bird, Patrick Otton had also waken up early as well. Had a little chat and then went to stretch a bit before shower. Also made some extra noise in hostel room to get everybody else up too.
After breakfast we took out some bikes from the trailer, Terttu and Kimmo among others got theirs. Mace and Jonas headed to look the first kilometres of the bicycle route for Saturday, Jukka and I planned to have a little meeting with Kirjastokaista's film crew at their hostel. Some fine adjustments had to be made because chef Pasi needed to find suitable grocery stores and Urpo's iPhone was stolen :(.
We had a good conversation with film crew and also met the two participants from Norway. Jukka became hungry but didn't accept any restaurants via Ströget so I forced him to come straight to National Library, or the Black Diamond (Den Sorte Diamant in Danish) where we'd meet rest of the organizing crew. Lunch. Coffee. Lots of talking. Would everything go well tomorrow? What if nothing goes well? Some problems will come up, that's for sure.
Ain't no rest so we hurried up to change some clothes before the great Kick off party at Copenhagen City Library. When we cycled back to Krystalgade, CPH again showed us its rapid changes in weather. Soaking wet.
The party was awesome! A wonderful Klezmer band, two warm-hearted welcoming speeches, lots of lovely food and beverages. But the most important thing was that a great number of participants were present, despite the little mix up between National and City libraries among some of us. I talked or at least shook hands with almost everyone, including some patrons between the shelves (library was still open when the party started). Again, there was lots of excitement in the air. Especially when Russian participants asked me if I took their bikes from National Library in Helsinki -I stopped breathing because that was something I didn't know was meant for me to do. Anyway, they mixed up National and City libraries as well, Jonas had handled the business. Huh.
The party was over by 10 pm, and we cycled back to hostel. I was too excited to get any sleep without iPod, so Lucinda Williams sang lullabies to me. It was no use tryin' to read either, because the lighting in hostels is... well, you know.
